Ballard v Acton c1533 |
The Court of Chancery, also known as the Court of the Lord Chancellor, was responsible for the administration of equity cases as opposed to criminal cases. This encompassed many areas but the ones of primary interest to the genealogist are of those relating to disputes concerning probate and land ownership. Some cases took a very long time to settle and it was often the case that to make a small fortune, one should start with a large one and fight a case in Chancery!
