In the Herald's Visitation of co.
Nottingham made in 1614 there is a pedigree of four generations, from Phillip Ballard of
Greenwich, co. Kent, who had William of Southwell, co. Nottingham, who had Henry, of
Southwell living 1614 with sons Thomas, William and Phillip. They were allowed the Arms:
Sable a Griffin Ermine, and Crest, a Griffin's head and raised wings ermine.
[College of Arms]
There is much speculation as to where Phillip fits with regard to the Kent family, if indeed any such link ever existed. Despite extensive research there is no evidence to make even a valid hypothesis let alone a definitive link.
