Married Alice Smith at Stepney E on 10 September 1899.² He ended military service on 31 July 1902.² He began military service on 5 September 1914 Re-enlisted 2nd Battalion Royal Fusiliers at Stratford and embarked at Newhaven 16 March 1915 for the Dardanelles where he disembarked 25 April 1915. Wounded in action on 9th May 1915 at Galipoli (bullet wound left thigh) and admitted St Andrew's Military Hospital Malta 19 May 1915 and from there to rest camp in Alexandria in June 1915. He rejoined the regiment in the Dardanelles 2 September 1915 and was returned to England 4th November 1915 (sight right eye). Admitted to hospital in Brighton and then joined the Hounslow depot on 20th December 1915 before going to F.C.Depot Shoreham-by-Sea on 27th December 1915 as a convalescent.
